Our Curriculum

At Finedon Schools we offer a broad, balanced and academically rigorous curriculum for all our learners.

Our curriculum is designed with knowledge at its heart to ensure that children develop a strong vocabulary base and understanding of the world.  The curriculum promotes long-term learning and we believe that progress means knowing more and remembering more.  We have developed a curriculum built on current research regarding how memory works and ensure that children are taught in a way that enables them to commit knowledge to long term memory. We make use of knowledge organisers (which are sent home regularly) to ensure children know exactly which information and vocabulary is expected to be learned over the course of their study in a particular subject.

Emphasis is placed on children building rich webs of knowledge as they progress through the curriculum and parents can support this work through quizzing children on the information provided on the knowledge organisers.

A primary focus of our curriculum is to raise aspirations, engender a sense of personal pride in achievement, provide purpose and relevance for learning and ultimately to help every pupil to find strengths and interests.

Our curriculum endeavours to fulfil the potential of every child academically, socially, morally, spiritually and culturally in order to prepare them for the next stage of their education and their life beyond school.

We offer a broad range of rich experiences which inspire learning, equipping children with an awareness of the possibilities open to them as they journey through life.

Children are taught what they need to know to make sense of and to improve the world, enabling them to grow into active and responsible British and global citizens who understand one another, respecting and celebrating difference and diversity.

We promote growth mindsets and positive attitudes to learning, building resilience and perseverance so that children make positive choices and become creative, critical thinkers. Children will develop high expectations of themselves and will be encouraged to be confident, independent learners who can work cooperatively with others.
