Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage are taught using the EYFS framework with an emphasis on developing key skills, knowledge and understanding through direct teaching and structured continuous provision. In the EYFS there are 7 learning areas. The 3 ‘Prime Areas’ are Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. The 4 ‘Specific Areas’ (through which the 3 Prime Areas are strengthened and applied) are Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
